Boston Piano – Designed by Steinway & Sons!
This Boston grand piano from 1998 features a Duplex scale – one of Steinway & Sons’ most famous inventions, which provides a full, balanced and above all long-lasting sound. The duplex systems installed in the cast iron plate provide an additional richness of overtones and a harmonic variety of tones.
To meet the highest quality standards, only the finest Sitka spruce with a regular grain and a specified minimum of annual rings per centimetre is used in the construction of a Boston soundboard. Based on the design of Steinway & Sons from 1936, the Boston soundboard is not uniformly thick, but tapers towards the ends. This allows it to vibrate more freely and produce more sonority.
In addition, every Boston grand piano, regardless of size, features a widened grand piano body. This is an innovation by Steinway & Sons that makes it possible to widen the case at the rear. The Boston grand pianos thus have a much larger soundboard than other instruments of the same length – a Boston grand piano with a length of 178 cm, for example, is given the soundboard area of a typical grand piano with a length of 189 cm.
